Heating costs with cement block walls
steveng

I have been looking at 50 to 60 year old houses in an area where they typically built with cement block walls. The inside finish appears to be plaster directly on the block while the outside is either painted or stucco over which has been placed aluminum siding. Anyone have experience with heat loss and hence heating costs under such circumstances? Area is near Denver, CO.

so basically no insulation. chances are the heating costs are gonna be high
in my experience block walls are problematic. more prone to cracking. and leaks

if it were me id be making sure its sound for waterproofing, then build 2x4 walls if not 2x6 then insulating those. it will cut heating costs as well as making life much easier for electricians and plumbers if rough in is required
