Possible to replace bath fan without attic access??
workinhard

My bathroom currently has an exhaust fan installed however I wanted to upgrade it to a quieter/more powerful unit. The ceiling in the bathroom is vaulted. I tried to get to the fan through the attic however it's located in a very awkward position and the vaulted ceiling makes it practically impossible to get up on the rafters and down to the unit.
Since the electric and venting is already in place, is there anyway to replace the fan from within the bathroom itself without having to access the unit from the attic space?
Thanks

sure there is almost always some way to do just about anything.

especially if you're willing to replace or repair areas of the ceiling should access to wiring and connection to the vent flue and removing old fastener connections to framing to remove and install new fastener connections to the framing for the new one to replace the entire fixture requires a portion of the ceiling be removed to do the job. dealing with whatever insulation and ventillation system for the ceiling/roof deck cavity area from below may have some unique challenges.

sometimes replacing or cleaning the fan blades or motor is all that is required for better and quieter operation. you'd know more if you removed the grill and looked for identifying information on the fan unit and how it is installed. might even be a remote or inline unit for all we know - access from the roof even?
