Kim and Gerard Sava are volunteer "interim care providers" with , an adoption services non-profit in the New York City area. That means they care for newborn babies between the time they're ready to leave the hospital until they are united with their new adoptive families. The unique program provides the babies with a home environment, giving them care that is critical in the first weeks of life and keeping them out of institutions. In the past six years, Kim and Gerard have cared for almost 40 babies.
