Make Sea Animal-Shaped Message Boards
Magnetic primer and chalkboard paint make these charming silhouettes multitaskers

What better way to add whimsy to your walls than with oversized animal silhouettes that serve as both creative and display space? These sea creatures get bonus functionality from magnetic primer and chalkboard paint.
To make them, we used ¼-inch MDF (about $6 for a 2-by-4-foot sheet; at home centers) that we outlined freehand (three templates are available for download below).
Print out template on 8½ x 11 paper and enlarge according to the table below. At this scale, the animals should just fit on 2x4-foot MDF board.
We cut them out with a jigsaw, paying special attention to tight corner turns, then softened edges with a rasp. Two coats of magnetic primer followed, and tinted chalkboard paint gave them their color.
Mounted with removable adhesive strips, they form an irresistible interactive display.
