Which to do first, windows or siding?

We've just bought a colonial with 40 year old aluminum siding and 30 year old windows.  Both are serviceable just very ugly. We can replace one or the other this year and would do the other upgrade in a year or two. Which upgrade would be better to start with and why, going to vinyl siding or new windows? Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Re: Which to do first, windows or siding?

I would never, ever put vinyl siding and new windows in any house. I would remove the siding, and paint the slats, if there are slats. If there is brick, I would keep the brick showing. I get it about vinyl and aluminum siding being ugly. But it has also done damage to the original siding that is underneath. If you insist on using cheap vinyl on a house, replace the siding first. You will find that most of the places will need work due to water damage, especially in the corners and around the windows.
